Las Vegas, otherwise known as 'Sin City' is situated in Southern Nevada right in the middle of the desert. Close to the likes of Lake Mead, thanks to the Hoover Dam, and strangely beautiful places like Death Valley. Many visitors only visit the strip, make sure you hire a car and get around the area, it is well worth it.
The Las Vegas Strip itself is over 5 miles long so do not expect to walk it in one day, especially in the hot weather. Plan a couple of hotel's to visit each day. We highly recommend The Venetian.

Las Vegas Climate & Weather
One thing about Las Vegas is that winter only last for around 2 months with temperature only dropping below the 60F during December and January. The rest of the year is very warm compared to the UK, and temperatures average over 100F during June, July and August. However, due to the very low humidity it is much easier to handle than a humid heat wave in the UK.
Although it does rain, as it is desert, you will not see much of it with only around 3 days a month during the rainy seasons!!
If you expect to be out in the Sun for more than 10 minutes, ensure you use sunscreen. Also always carry water, as you will not notice you are sweating dehydration can sneak up on you. |

Flying Advice
When booking flights you get to select the seats you would like, and for additional information visit the SeatGuru > http://www.seatguru.com
Try and avoid bulkheads, those near toilets, and the galley.
If you want to be last on, but quick off, select near the front, you also usually get your meals first. In most cases special meals can be ordered via our booking form, otherwise once booked call the airline who will be happy to help.
The best airlines we found are Virgin and United Airlines. US Airways goes via Philadelphia and you have to collect your luggage and put it back in again! Thomas Cook have the smallest leg room at about 28", most are 31", you can check on the above site.
Food: Some airlines allow you to specify a special meal when booking, for instance vegan, diabetic, etc. If you cannot select this when booking, do not worry, once your flight is confirmed call the airline and they will register you for a special meal free of charge.
Disabled: Some airlines allow you to request assistance when booking, others you have to call the airline. Do this as soon as you can, in the majority of cases it is a free service. Budget airlines are the only ones that may charge you a small fee. |
