Saving to travel to australia?

Postby austyn » Sat Aug 29, 2009 1:24 pm

I am currently saving up to travel to australia with a couple of friends in summer 2011. We are from Ireland and have free accomadation around the adelade (sorry can't spell) area however we would like to move around a bit aswell to places like sydney and darwin and melbourne. I was wondering what estimated goal of money should I be looking to save? I have no idea!! please help! :)

Yay! Australia is lovely. Make sure you come up during our summer though (not yours) otherwise it will be cold and boring.
Umm I guess it depends on how long you wanted to stay here for! I would say have a few thousand dollars saved. If you are on the cheap for a few weeks I would suggest approximately $5000 excluding flights, but this could be anything from $5000-10,000.
I suggest you go to a travel agent and ask these kinds of questions, they can give you a better estimate. Get your friends together and research research research! Find the cheapest flights you can and calculate how much accomadation will cost, food, spending etc. Factor in everything you can. It is much better to over-estimate the anount of money you will need than to under-estimate

I agree with Sophie about the price. If you come to Darwin (I live in Darwin), make sure you come when the rest of Australia is having its winter, it's truly the best time of year. The best time is between May and September.
